What’s Hot: Maldives resort opens second island

A sense of discovery has never had more of a place in hospitality design. And, if there was any doubt left about that fact, just the name of the new island at Per Aquum’s Niyama resort puts paid to the those reservations. “Play” adds 48 keys to the Maldives property.

From the children’s club to the family-style dining, that playful spirit dominates the spaces. Richly colored lighting adds an element of fantasy. Rounded seating encourages guests to curl up and relax. Scheduled to open in the near future, the Nest restaurant is shaped like a multi-level treehouse.

“The opening of Play is a significant milestone for Niyama and proves that we are continuing to redefine the Maldives’ experience,” said Nicholas Downing, vice president of Per Aquum. “We were the first resort to open an underwater music club and we’re still breaking the mould with our new, groundbreaking concepts.”
