Boston University unveils RevPASH calculator

Boston University’s School of Hospitality Administration (SHA) has launched the RevPASH calculator, the industry’s first web-based app that calculates a restaurant’s revenue per available seat hour.

Additional features of the app include:

The ability to edit the variables used in calculating RevPASH while seeing the resulting change.

The ability to use a live calculation method. Anytime a variable is edited, other variables are updated instantaneously.

The use of tooltips above each variable, which show the effects of editing a particular variable.

Charts and graphs that show RevPASH as a function of time.

The free app was developed by Dr. Peter Szende, associate professor at SHA, Dr. Kristin Rohlfs, an independent consultant and researcher, and Roy Madhok, director of revenue management for Highgate Hotels.

“RevPASH is the core measure of a restaurant revenue management program,” said Szende. “Once a food and beverage operator calculates the information, he or she can use it to identify opportunities to run top-line revenue.”

“The versatility of the app enables operators to use data to help make educated decisions in many areas such as when to expedite service delivery, change price and apply marketing strategies,” added Dr. Arun Upneja, dean of SHA.
