Hot Openings: Park Hyatt debuts in Sanya

If there’s one buzzword for projects like Hainan Island’s Park Hyatt Sanya Sunny Bay Resort, it’s elegant. Everything about the styling has a polished vibe that ups the ante on the serenity of many resorts. Jean-Michel Gathy of Denniston International Architects & Planners wanted to deliver a look that was contemporary and chic without abandoning drama.

The overall architecture of the six arch-shaped buildings might be designed with energy flow (chi) in mind,  but the interior design goes beyond Zen. Deep red banquettes provide a visual draw in the entrance area. Latticework and floor to ceiling windows bring impact to the four story lobby.  The six buildings are connected by furnished, art-accented walkways.

The hotel also offers eight event spaces and and five swimming pools. “This is an exceptional building and will be the most talked about Park Hyatt in the world. The project is dramatic, massive and really special. It is simply not just a small hotel on the beach but rather a major undertaking – architecturally it’s quite an exceptional statement”, says Gathy.
