Hyatt planned for Republic of Georgia: Hyatt Hotels Corp. announced a Hyatt affiliate has entered into a management agreement with Rustaveli Property for a 170-room Hyatt Regency hotel in Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia, which is expected to open in 2017.

Ritz-Carlton to expand in Australia: The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co. and Asian property developer Fast Consortium have signed an agreement for the development of The Ritz-Carlton, Melbourne. The 250-room project will begin construction next year.

Hotel guests’ shower habits to be studied: The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency is spending US$15,000 to create a wireless system that will track how much water hotel guests use in the shower to get them to “modify their behavior.”

Two Marriott-branded hotels acquired: Solstar Investments of Los Angeles acquired the 120-room Marriott SpringHill Suites Hotel and the 108-room Marriott TownePlace Suites Hotel in Henderson, Nevada, for an undisclosed price. The 2009-built pair of hotels was acquired from Campbell Lodging, the original owner/developer.
