What’s Hot: Renovated Salzburg hotel hits high note

Walking into a guestroom to find a life-size photo of two opera singers on the wall certainly makes for an unusual focal point. But, that’s exactly the kind of punch the team behind Salzburg’s 16-room Goldgasse Hotel wanted to pack into the opera-themed redux of the 13th-century building.

They also wanted to keep a more modern element in the design. Bright yellow chairs give off a contemporary vibe. Industrial-style touches in the guestrooms balance the elaborate images on the walls. White bedding adds a crisp note. Oak, porcelain tiles and glass in the material palette help maintain continuity between the historical architecture and a vibe that appeals to a 21st-century guest.

Artwork makes a focal point, while yellow chairs spice up the space.

The hotel’s restaurant, Gasthof Goldgasse, takes a more rustic approach. Wooden tables and chairs evoke the sturdiness of medieval and Renaissance furnishings. The timbers in the ceiling marry traditional and modern style. Copper detailing dresses up the Alpine look.
