What’s Hot: Azerbaijan restaurant brings the heat

Dramatic design is key for today’s restaurants and bars. So is a good design narrative. But, not all designers would look at a brief and decide those two elements were and explosive combination. Blue Sky Hospitality’s Henry Chebaane did. For the Fireworks Urban Kitchen at the JW Marriott Absheron Baku, he took the idea of the eponymous fireworks as his inspiration.

The bright red tones of the restaurant raise the visual temperature. Metal rods, translucent bricks and wooden blocks make a modern echo of cooking and grilling with fire as an ancient ritual. Walnut and oak furnishings ground the look.

Chebaane also wanted to bring art into the space. A four-piece conceptual installation called “Born of Fire” dominates the ceiling in the main dining area. A metalized glass surface and wooden bricks lay the foundation for dynamic lighting that evolves from day to night.
