Huge Australian ski resort sold

Broomfield, Colorado-based Vail Resorts said it will buy its first ski area outside the United States — the massive Perisher in New South Wales, Australia — according to published reports.

Vail is expected to acquire the 3,000-acre (1,214-hectare) Perisher — the largest ski resort in the southern hemisphere — from James Packer’s Murray Publishers and Transfield Corporate for approximately US$136 million.

The deal is pending the approval of the New South Wales government. It is expected to close by the end of the year.
