Hot Openings: Paris hotel’s style sets sail

The heart of Paris’ La Défense district might not be the first place you’d look for a sail-shaped hotel, but Vasconi Architects is fine with an element of surprise. The 369-room Meliá Paris La Défense (with interior design by Jean-Phillipe Nuel) takes the sleek, streamlined vibe of some of today’s hippest hotels and gives it a hint of the unexpected.

That starts the minute guests walk in the door. A golden front on the reception desk brings in an exotic touch. Glittering round lights and metallic balls punch up the ceiling. Bright chairs in the restaurant keep up the visual intensity.

The guestrooms offer a more modulated approach. Gray accents give off a soothing feel, while the occasional pop of color keeps the look vibrant.

The hotel is also home to Le Miroir restaurant and The Place lobby bar and lounge. Private lounge The Level and Skyline Paris Lounge & Bar round out the offerings, along with extensive meeting space.
