What’s Hot: Las Vegas hotel unveils new restaurant

You wouldn’t expect anything in Las Vegas to steer toward minimalism. However, the style of the glamorous city has evolved from straightforward, unabashed glam to a more modulated way of making a can’t-miss statement. Lago by Julian Serrano at the Bellagio is a case in point.

The Milanese cuisine-inspired eatery takes its design cues from early-20th-century Italian futurism. Munge Leung’s vision for the dining room centers on delicate shapes and cool tones that combine to give the area a slightly aquatic feel — a perfect accent to the iconic fountains in front of the property. On the patio, dozens of tiny blue lights resemble an inverted tree.

“I remember when I was approached about opening my first Bellagio restaurant, Picasso, in front of some ‘wild fountain.’ It was unheard of at the time, but the potential was undeniable,” Serrano said. “Lago is a continuation of what Jean-Georges (Vongerichten), Sirio (Maccioni), Todd (English) and I started here — executing exceptional, thought-provoking cuisine in a setting you can’t find anywhere else in the world.”
