What’s Hot: Hawaii resort unveils renovated tower

Making a statement with the materials palette and the silhouette is a fresh twist on giving spaces a distinctly local identity. From local woods to pieces inspired by traditions, designers are finding new ways to make shape and texture part of the narrative.

For interior designer Philpotts & Associates and architect Pacific Asia Design Group, that was the key to the US$100million renovation of the Hilton Hawaiian Village Waikiki Beach Resort. The 380-key Diamond Head Tower’s new look takes inspiration from the island in touches from carpeting that echoes traditional ceremonial feather standards to coral-shaped brass doorknobs. The restrained palette makes for a graceful backdrop.

“The new Diamond Head tower is one of the best values on Oahu as far as accommodations go,” said Jerry Gibson, area vice president, Hilton Hawaii. “It’s a new product with all the amenities of Waikiki’s only true destination resort — Hilton Hawaiian Village — in one of the most desired oceanfront locations in Hawaii.”
