What’s Hot: Anaheim hotel channels boutique vibe

When it comes to hotel design, scale isn’t the only way to pack a punch, as countless modestly-sized properties have gone to show. In fact, it’s just as often the giants who are looking to steal a leaf from the smaller properties’ design books. That was the driving force behind Hilton Anaheim’s recent redo of its public spaces.

The 1,572-key property wanted to humanize the scale of its public spaces and bring in the materials-focused, artisanal feel that “lifestyle” properties so often channel. The property turned to HGTV personality John Gidding to do that for a new Chef’s Table in the restaurant. Gidding pulled together seemingly disparate building blocks — marble, plywood and steel — for a look that’s equal parts industrial chic and city cool. Plywood is stacked to create a wavelike accent piece that doubles as a wine rack.

The renovation also includes an eco-friendly redesign of the lobby-level Starbucks and Puccini Group’s renovation of the Mix lobby and lounge.

In 2014, the hotel tapped Creative Resource Associates to create a new presidential suite. They put a lifestyle spin on the terraced space with vivid accents on a neutral palette. Punchy artwork finishes off the statement.
