Hot Openings: West Nassau hotel shows off effortless chic

Breezy style is a must for warm-weather getaways. So for the 30-key The Island House in West Nassau, Bahamas, the design team at Champalimaud and architect Hart Howerton knew they’d have to make their statement with a streamlined ease.

Coral stone and Pecky-cyprus (a local favorite for roof and ceiling structures) ground the style in its locale. Artwork helps to finish off that statement.

But the designers also knew they wanted to add more flair to the look without creating visual clutter. So they turned to Solomon and Wu to create lighting that serves as both illumination and focal point.

“Our goal was to create a residential hotel experience with presence, where guests can move fluidly throughout the property, seamlessly blending indoor and outdoor living spaces. There’s a true sense of comfort, relaxation and place,” said Alexandra Champalimaud, founder and principal designer, Champalimaud.
