Hot Openings: Vietnam hotel celebrates art

Whether it’s paintings, photos or even the occasional multimedia piece, art in hotels has never enjoyed more of a starring role. It’s become the It kid of hospitality design and tops designers’ must have lists. That’s putting the pressure on them to find fresh ways to incorporate artwork into design. For luxury projects like Hanoi’s 123-key Apricot Hotel, that starts with making a big statement.

But, the 600 pieces on display are only the beginning of the styling. The look that goes around the paintings and sculptures by leading Vietnamese artists provides more than a blank canvas. Rich tones and “neoclassical” shapes make guestrooms memorable. Sparkling chandeliers adorn the lobby.

The signature shade pops up in upholstery in the guestrooms. The 1920-vintage hotel keeps the opulence of the Jazz Age. Intricate detailing adds an artistry to the spaces, whether it’s in patterned carpeting or elegantly curved furnishings.
