Dalata rolling out Clayton Hotels across Ireland

Dalata Hotel Group announced Friday that by the end of this year 10 of its newly acquired hotels across the United Kingdom and Ireland will be rebranded as Clayton Hotels.

Six of the hotels previously traded under the Bewley brand. The Maldron hotels in Cardiff, Wales, and Cardiff Lane, Dublin, will also be rebranded Clayton in the coming months. Together, with the existing Clayton Hotel in Galway, there will be 13 Clayton hotels in the United Kingdom and Ireland. With eight hotels and 1,900 rooms, Dalata claims Clayton Hotels will become the largest hotel brand in Ireland.

Clayton Hotels will be positioned as luxury hotels at prime locations with a focus on the corporate market, which is the principal distinction between Clayton Hotels and the more family-oriented sister hotel group, Maldron Hotels.

Dalata, with 45 hotels and 7,480 rooms across the United Kingdom and Ireland, will invest €27 million (US$32 million) in the redevelopment and upgrade of both brands, including the rollout of the Clayton Hotel signature bedrooms.

The rebranded Clayton Hotels will have a significant focus on training and developing staff and offering its “your stay, your way” approach. Offerings will include little touches such as the hotel’s own-brand healthy vitality breakfast range.

In March 2014, Dalata floated on the U.K. (AIM) and Irish (ESM) stock exchange raising €265 million (US$297 million) of equity. In a deal worth €453 million (US$507 million), Dalata acquired nine Moran Bewley hotels in February 2015 partly funded by an additional equity raise of €50 million (US$56 million) and debt of €282 million (US$316 million). Dalata also acquired an additional eight hotels on the island of Ireland from June 2014 to April 2015. It is Ireland’s largest hotel operator.
