And, each one has to offer a unique spin on respecting the property’s heritage while still managing to appeal to today’s guests. For designer Carlo Rampazzi, that seemed like a doable brief for the renovation of the Hotel Eden Roc on Lago Maggiore.
Vivid accents bring the modern side of the design to eye-catching life. A palette that includes bright greens and deep pinks helps make that statement. Rich detailing and intricate shapes keep the opulence of a more traditional aesthetic alive.
Projects like this show that melding contemporary and historical styles does not need to start with finding common ground. Instead, today’s designers are celebrating the best of both worlds. The boldness of modern design and the complexity of historical pieces can and should stay side by side, they argue.
