Iconic hotel provides luxury accommodations — for insects

Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc in Antibes, France, has long been known for its luxury guest offerings, but now the Oetker Collection property is catering to some less conventional visitors — insects.

The hotel recently created an “insect hotel” as a temporary shelter for a variety of insect species, including the property’s bee population.

The hotel is home to solitary bees, butterflies, a variety of beetles, ladybugs and even earwigs. The natural environment of the grounds where the bees and insects live deteriorates over winter, reducing the number of spaces suitable for insects.

In Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc’s “insect hotel,” each species has its own dedicated area comprised of drilled logs, wood shavings, branches or moss.

The insect hotel helps to enrich the micro fauna at the Hotel du Cap-Eden-Roc while educating guests about protecting the environment, according to the property.
