News in brief: Trump, The Hotel Group, Makar

More hacks. Several Trump Collection hotels were the target of a yearlong data breach, hotel officials said Wednesday. The hack could affect customers who used credit cards at seven hotels from May 19, 2014, to June 2, 2015. Trump is offering a year of free identity-fraud protection to affected customers.

Good deal. The Goodland Hotel in Goleta, California, has been sold to KHP Capital Partners, the San Francisco-based investment arm of former Kimpton Hotel and Restaurant executives, for an undisclosed price. The 158-room vintage California-inspired surf lodge was curated and developed by Makar Properties, which acquired the former Holiday Inn hotel in June of 2013 and opened as The Goodland in October 2014.

THG growth. West77 Partners, along with The Hotel Group, Edmonds, Washington, have broken ground for a 254-room Hilton Garden Inn in downtown Bellevue, Washington. The Hotel Group has been awarded the management contract.

Another dual-brand. Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide has announced plans to break ground on a dual-branded Aloft and Element hotel development in Redmond, Washington, set to open in July 2017. Owned and managed by CSM Corp., the 150-room Aloft Redmond and 131-room Element Redmond will be located just outside the campus for Microsoft Corp.’s world headquarters.

NOLA development. NewcrestImage, Dallas, has purchased the 13-story building at 1600 Canal Street in New Orleans for repurpose development as the area’s first dual-branded hotel – a 105-room TownePlace Suites by Marriott and 78-room SpringHill Suites by Marriott. Opening is expected by December of 2016.
