Housed in a building originally built in 1881 as a lodging house for sailors, The Society Hotel in Portland, Oregon, was carefully designed to preserve its historic features and aims to bridge the gap between hotel and hostel by offering both private and bunk accommodations.

For guests seeking a more traditional hotel experience, 26 private rooms are available with full and queen bed options, vanity and sink areas, and shared bathrooms, while 12 private suites offer queen or king bed options and private bathrooms. Hostel-style bunks are located in the Bunk Room and include eight triple-sleeper bunk beds, for a total of 24 bunks. Each bunk comes with its own reading light, electrical outlets, WiFi and sailcloth drapes for privacy. Travelers also have access to a kitchenette, laundry facilities and storage lockers.

Amenities include a rooftop deck and a lobby café serving coffee, pastries and other local snacks by day, and beer and wine service by night. Guests also have access to the hotel’s card catalog of favorite Portland restaurants, bars, cultural sites and more.
