Marriott’s Mobile Requests expands: Marriott International is expanding Mobile Requests to five additional brands: JW Marriott Hotels & Resorts, Autograph Collection, Renaissance Hotels and Marriott Executive Apartments. Originally launched at select Marriott Hotels, Mobile Requests is also now available at Marriott Hotels across the globe and is being rolled-out at Courtyard and Residence Inn properties in Europe, the Middle East, Latin America and Asia.

IHG grows in London: IHG signed Hotel Indigo London – Aldgate. The new-build, 207-room hotel will operate under a under a franchise agreement with Meadow Partners and Roquebrook and is scheduled to open in 2017.

Hilton adds new VP: Hilton Worldwide appointed Ronen Nissenbaum vice president of operations, luxury hotels – Americas. In this newly created position, Nissenbaum will have full operational responsibility for all Hilton luxury properties in the Americas region inclusive of Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts and Conrad Hotels & Resorts.

Conversions may boost performance: Hotels that convert from one brand to another generally see improved occupancy, revenue, and profit—provided they choose a strong brand that fits their property, according to a new report from the Center for Hospitality Research at Cornell University.

Expedia and Airbnb: New research from Morgan Stanley shows that Expedia feels less threatened by Airbnb than travel agents. According to the study, 12% of US and European travelers have used Airbnb and adoption is rising, but awareness, privacy, and safety remain major hurdles. Instead, leisure-heavy OTAs are more likely to face competition.

Embassy Suites Columbus sold: Embassy Suites by Hilton Columbus in Ohio sold for US$14.1 million. An affiliate of RLJ Lodging Trust sold the 8-story hotel to Frontier Development & Hospitality Group. The buyer plans to completely renovate the hotel and upgrade the guestrooms.
