What’s Hot: Historic hotel celebrates revival in Texas

Originally built in 1909 in San Antonio, The St. Anthony debuted its extensive restoration this week. Together with its owner partner BC Lynd, Starwood Hotels & Resorts enhanced the property’s guestrooms, refreshed the public spaces and opened new dining venues as part of the US$300 million-dollar renovation.

Now part of Starwood’s Luxury Collection, The St. Anthony features 277 fully remodeled guestrooms, including 72 suites such as the John Wayne Suite, named for the actor who frequently stayed at the hotel. Adorned in hues of black, white, gray and gold, accommodations are accented with hints of the hotel’s signature shade of green and several rooms maintain original crown moldings, crystal light fixtures, fireplaces, and vintage furniture pieces. Guest bathrooms also underwent renovation and include vanities, oversized showers, and marble and tile details.

Additionally, the restoration marks the reopening of The St. Anthony Club. Originally a private members-only venue when it opened in 1959, the club is now open to the public and features the original bar and authentic Venetian tile floors revealed during the hotel’s renovation.

Other on-site food and beverage options include the new flagship restaurant Rebelle, serving meats and farm-fresh produce sourced from Texas’ farms, and Haunt, a lounge offering cocktails inspired by the hotel’s storied past.

The St. Anthony’s ballrooms and meeting spaces retained their elegant style and individual character – from double-height ceilings to walnut paneling to crystal chandeliers – while offering the latest audio-visual equipment, lighting and connectivity. The rooftop pool and pool deck have also been updated and aim to offer guests a tranquil escape that overlooks the city’s landscape.
