Chinese bidders eye IHG: Chinese bidders are reportedly considering the purchase of IHG. Sources believe that IHG has been left “vulnerable” after Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide agreed was bought by Marriott International earlier this month. Three Chinese companies, Shanghai Jin Jiang International Hotels Group, HNA Group, China Investment Corp., had expressed an interest in buying Starwood.

Holiday Inn Express to debut in Gibraltar: IHG signed the first Holiday Inn Express hotel in Gibraltar. The 120-room new-build hotel is set to open in 2017 and will operate under a franchise agreement with G. & J. B. Hotels 2014 Ltd.

Meliá to manage in Rio de Janeiro: Meliá Hotels International will manage the Hotel Nacional in Rio de Janerio under a 20-year contract. The iconic hotel in Brazil has been closed since 1995 and will reopen in June 2016 as the Hotel Nacional Gran Meliá.

Wyndham grows in Australia: Wyndham Hotel Group announced the rebranding of Australia’s WorldMark Resort Golden Beach to Ramada Resort Golden Beach. The resort is the 14th property in Australia to open under the Ramada flag.

Booking.com, Wyndham sign distribution agreement: Booking.com and Wyndham Vacation Rentals announced a worldwide distribution agreement. Under the agreement, Wyndham’s global portfolio of vacation rental brands will be able to utilize the Booking.com website and mobile apps as distribution channels for their properties. Additional terms of the agreement have not been disclosed.

Carlson Rezidor enters Vietnam: Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group signed a management contract with Eurowindow Nha Trang Investment and Tourism Joint Stock Company to develop the Radisson Blu Cam Ranh Bay in Vietnam. The new-build resort will feature 290 keys and is expected to open in the first quarter of 2019.

Fairmont develops in Morocco: Fairmont Hotels & Resorts and Eagle Hills will develop Fairmont La Marina Rabat-Salé in Morocco. The hotel is set to open in 2019 and include 200 guestrooms and 90 branded residences.

AccorHotels hits 500,000 rooms: AccorHotels has reached the 500,000-room mark with the openings of Pullman Paris Roissy CDG Airport and ibis Styles Roissy CDG Airport hotels. The company is planning to open more than 160,000 additional rooms by 2020, including 90% under franchise and management contracts.

Argyle expands in China: Argyle Hotel Group signed its 78th hotel in China, Argyle Hotel Tangshan. The 220-room hotel is scheduled to open in June 2016 in the Hebei province of China.

 


FibraHotel develops in Mexico City: FibraHotel will develop a 115-room limited service hotel inside the Power Center San Marcos shopping Mall in Mexico City. The hotel, with a brand and operator to be announced, is currently under and is expected to open during the third quarter of 2016.

 


Omni Hotel Independence Park sold: Buccini/Pollin purchased the Omni Hotel Independence Park in Old City, Philadelphia. The hotel will be rebranded as a Marriott Renaissance.

Iverness Hotel sold: Silverwest Hotels purchased the Iverness Hotel and Conference Center in Englewood, Colorado, for an undisclosed price. The previous owner is listed as the Pennsylvania State Teachers Retirement Fund. Destination Hotels will continue to run the hotel.
