Preliminary re-opening date set for Ritz in Paris

A news report out of Paris on Friday suggested the landmark Hôtel Ritz will reopen in June, only three months behind schedule after a January 19 fire did extensive damage to the suites on the top floor and the roof.

The 118-year-old hotel has been closed since 2012 for a complete refurbishment, which has been estimated at more than US$150 million.

The iconic 142-room property owned by the Egyptian businessman Mohamed Al-Fayed had been scheduled to reopen on March 14, but the fire has changed the timing to “early June,” with a more precise date to be determined in the weeks ahead.
