Dual-brand near Heathrow: IHG signed an agreement to develop a hotel near London’s Heathrow Airport with dual brands: a 433-room Holiday Inn London Heathrow Bath Road and a 190-room Staybridge Suites London Heathrow Bath Road, which will operate under a franchise agreement with Bathroad Corp Sarl. They are scheduled to open in 2018.

 


Erawan to triple hotels: Thailand’s Erawan Group PCL said it plans to spend 10 billion bhat (US$283 million) over five years to increase the number of its hotels to 95 from 34.  About a third of that will go to the Philippines, where it is planning on opening its first hotel in the fourth quarter.

Hot in the Caribbean: Hotel occupancies and average daily rates increased for the majority of hotels surveyed by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association for an industry performance report, with optimism for 2016 despite high operating and air travel costs.

Highgate to manage ARTIC assets: Hospitality investment and management company Highgate will manage the U.S. and European hotel portfolio of Al Rayyan Tourism Investment Co. (ARTIC), a subsidiary of Al Faisal Holding. ARTIC’s hospitality holdings include the St. Regis Washington D.C. and the Radisson Blu Aqua in Chicago.

 


PM rebrands: PM Hospitality Strategies is rebranding to become PM Hotel Group to reflect the company’s growth and direction. “Our new name better identifies us as a hotel operations group,” which supports expansion as a third-party operator, President Joseph Bojanowski said. The company manages more than 36 hotel and development projects.

 


Sheraton in Portugal: Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide signed an agreement to rebrand the 138-room Vivamarinha Hotel & Suites as the Sheraton Cascais Resort on Portugal’s Atlantic coast. It is owned and managed by United Investments Portugal.

HHM buys Cambridge hotel: HHM bought and is managing the 121-room Best Western Tria in Cambridge, Massechusetts. The company plans to renovate the property, which is its eighth in the Boston area. The acquisition price was not announced. 

 


Room Mate to expand: Room Mate Hotels appointed Felip Boyero managing director of the Americas and opened a regional headquarters in Miami. The move supports the company’s expansion into U.S. cities including Los Angeles, Chicago, San Francisco and Boston. Boyero previously worked at Air Europa.

 


Kimpton in Bellevue: Kimpton Hotels & Resorts will manage a new boutique hotel in the Seattle, Washington, suburb of Bellevue. The 120-room new-build hotel, Kimpton’s fifth in Washington, will be part of a mixed-use development and is scheduled to open in 2018. The owner and developer is Fana Group of Bellevue.

 


SpringHill in Newark: A SpringHill Suites by Marriott will be the first such brand in Delaware when it opens in 2017. The 125-room new-build hotel is owned by Danneman Hospitality and will be managed by TKo Hospitality.
