What’s Hot: Sneak peak at Strand Yangon’s refurbishment

The historic Strand Yangon in Myanmar will close next month to undergo a “complete facelift” that aims to preserve the property’s legendary elegance while giving it a contemporary twist with a refreshed color palette, decorative details and technological updates. The classic colonial hotel was constructed in 1901 and is scheduled to reopen in November.

The hotel’s 31 suites will be redecorated in keeping with the Strand’s original style, while providing updates that include new air conditioning, sound and communications systems.

The Strand Signature Restaurant will re-open as a dining pop-up outlet only open during high season, while Strand Café will undergo preservation and add several items to its menu. Sarkies Bar will also be fully refurbished and an extensive selection of whiskeys and single malts added to the menu.

“The Strand name has been synonymous with luxury hospitality in southeast Asia since 1901 and this renovation of the hotel is an exciting next chapter in our story,” said Olivier Trinquand, vice president of The Strand Hotel & Cruise.
