Fujita Kanko to develop in Taipei: Fujita Kanko will open a new hotel in Taipei, Taiwan, in 2019. Huang Hsiang Construction Corp. will build and own the 248-room hotel, and Fujita Kanko will manage the property.

Waldorf Astoria signs in Dubai: Hilton Worldwide signed a management agreement with Ward Holidng to open a Waldorf Astoria Hotels & Resorts property in Dubai. Waldorf Astoria Dubai International Financial Centre is scheduled to open in 2017.

Hampton expands in South America: Hilton Worldwide signed the Hampton Inn by Hilton Antofagasta, Chile. The hotel is expected to break ground in July and is the first Hampton property signed as part of a strategic alliance with Metro Hotels.

 


Warwick invests in Bahamas all-inclusive: Warwick International Hotels has invested US$28 million to create the Warwick Paradise Island Bahamas. The 244-room all-inclusive, adults-only resort is scheduled to open in October.

 


Vistana acquisition approved: Interval Leisure Group’s acquisition of Vistana Signature Experiences, the vacation ownership business of Starwood Hotels & Resorts Worldwide, was approved following a special meeting of stockholders.

Birkenstock heir buys in Croatia: The heir to the Birkenstock shoe empire, Klaus Alex Birkenstock, purchased the Hotel Ambassador in Split, Croatia. Birkenstock will reportedly invest between €13.6 million (US$15.38 million) and €14.3 million (US$16.17 million) for its reconstruction, and the hotel is expected to reopen in 2018.

Possible OTA scam: A report by the British House of Lords states that OTAs are spying on customers’ computer histories and using their details to charge them more for holidays. It warned that online travel providers are offering controversial “personalized” pricing in which customer information is being used to determine an individual price.
