Starwood expands in Latin America: Starwood Hotels & Resorts signed two Aloft Hotels in Mexico: Aloft Veracruz and Aloft Queretaro. Aloft Veracruz will be developed by FibraHotel and managed by Starwood while Aloft Queretaro is a franchised opportunity operated by Grupo Presidente.

Starwood launches SPG Dashboard: Starwood Hotels & Resorts launched SPG Dashboard, a new online hub for SPG Pro members that aims to make earning Starpoints faster and easier. The SPG Dashboard provides SPG Pro members with a customizable way to access exclusive promotions and new offerings, as well as view their account summary.

 


Oasis announces plan for global expansion: Oasis Collections plans to add 12 new markets by the end of 2016, extending their present to 30 cities worldwide.

 


U.S. construction continues growing: According to the latest U.S. Construction Pipeline Trend Report from Lodging Econometrics, the total U.S. hotel construction pipeline ended Q1 2016 with 4,471 projects/551,965 rooms, up 15% by projects and 13% by rooms year-over-year (YOY). This is the 14th consecutive quarter of pipeline growth.

 


Timeshare business spin-offs: As major hotel companies spin off their timeshare businesses, Morningstar does not anticipate these changes will hurt the credit strength of asset-backed securities issued by these timeshare companies. Hilton Worldwide Holdings is expected to spin off its Hilton Grand Vacations subsidiary later this year, which makes it the third company to do so following Starwood Hotel & Resorts Worldwide earlier this month and Marriott International five years ago.

Operator announced for Adelaide resort: A four-star AUS$40 million (US$29.1 million) resort in Adelaide, Australia, will be managed by the Mantra Group. The resort is being developed by Monopoly Property Group as part of a beachside mixed-use development that includes a movie thearer, meeting facilities and retail.
