News in brief: Taj Boston, Crowne Plaza, Meliá

Taj Boston for sale: Indian Hotels Co. Ltd. plans to sell the Taj Boston hotel for at least $125 million. The move was announced in a May 18 filing with two Indian stock exchanges.

Crowne Plaza Syracuse purchased: TJM Properties of Florida bought the Crowne Plaza Syracuse in New York. The 276-room hotel will remain a Crowne Plaza. A purchase price was not disclosed.

U.S. hotel performance: Compared with April 2015, U.S. hotel occupancy increased 2.2% to 68.1%, ADR for the month was up 2.8% to US$123.14, and RevPAR grew 5.0% to US$83.89, according to data and analytics specialist STR. Dallas had the only double-digit increase in occupancy (up 11%) and the biggest increase in RevPAR (up 18.1%) of the top 25 markets.

 


Meliá in Sumatra: Meliá Hotels International announced the signing of Meliá Pekanbaru. It’s the Spanish hotel company’s first on the island of Sumatra and 16th in Indonesia. The 29-story, 160-room hotel is expected to open in March 2017.

Maldives resort: Milaidhoo Island Maldives, a 50-villa boutique resort, will open in November on the private island of Milaidhoo as part of Small Luxury Hotels of the World.

 


Canopy in Dallas: Hilton Worldwide announced that a Canopy by Hilton will be developed in downtown Dallas with The Javelin Group. The 150-room hotel, part of a mixed-use retail and residential development, is slated to open in autumn 2017.

 


RCI adds four hotels: RCI recently added four additional properties from MGM Muthu Hotels Group: the Belstead Brook Muthu Hotel and Muthu Westcliff Hotel, both in England, Grand Muthu Golf Plaza Hotel in Tenerife, and Forte da Oura in Portugal.
