The Leonardo Hotel Las Ramblas in Barcelona re-opened in February with an update that retains the building’s historic spirit and appearance.
German interior designer Andreas Neudahm worked on the hotel, whose entryway features detailed stuccowork, columns and typical Spanish stone vault. Neudahm employed vibrant colors, accessories and furniture to align with the hotel’s theme.
An open lobby connects formerly separated spaces of the entrance, the restaurant and the bar. Wallpaper and big light sources restage the spaces and cozy lounge character. Cream, gold and earth tones complement fabrics of silk, velvet and corduroy. During the day, the lobby offers a “living-room environment,” and at night, the area adopts a more club-like character with light and music reprecenting the city of Barcelona.
The hotel restaurant, with a barrel vault ceiling and open-brick wall, focuses on a glazed wine cellar. The hotel’s roof terrace provides a view over the whole city.
Spanish lifestyles are reflected in the hotel’s rooms, which employ colorful mosaics and geometrical structures. The 110 rooms have light installations that harmonize with the wall elements.
