Google updates searches for hotel deals

Google is changing its search results for travel planners looking for deals on flights and hotels.

The search engine has announced updates that include “deal” labels in searches when a hotel rate drops, and tips when changing the dates of a hotel stay could save money, according to website Engadget.

Hotels can also be filtered for specific criteria such as type of hotel and amenities offered. The tips and filters are being rolled out first in the U.S. and then worldwide over the course of the year.

“These deals are automatically identified by our algorithms when we see a significant reduction in price,” Google said, according to website The Next Web. “In our early tests, we’ve seen that hotels marked as deals receive about twice as many bookings as other hotels.”

Google is also introducing price tracking on flights that pings users when prices change on specific flights. That will be available to a total of 26 countries within a few weeks.
