Mantra luring Pokemon Go fans to its hotel bars

Capturing Pokemon can be thirsty work, so a hotel group in Australia is hopping on the augmented-reality game craze with drink and food specials at two of its hotel bars.

Mantra Group’s “Pokestop By Our Bar” is using Pokemon Go Lures to increase users’ chances of catching one of the virtual monsters at either its Mantra 2 Bond Street in Sydney or its Mantra on Little Bourke during Fridays in July.

Pokemon Go, in which players use their smartphone camera to “catch” Pokemon characters as they walk around outside, launched last week. Similarweb says one in five Australian Android users have installed the game on their device, according to Mantra.

“Our mantra is ‘knowing what matters’ to people, and it’s pretty clear from the popularity of the game that playing Pokemon Go matters to millions of people all over the globe,” Mantra Group Executive Director Marketing and Digital Matt Granfield said. “We’re always keen to find new and innovative ways of making our hotels great places to stay, so helping our guests catch a few extra Pokemon during their stay was a no-brainer.”

Mantra Group manages and markets more than 125 hotels and resorts in Australia, New Zealand and Indonesia via the Peppers, Mantra and BreakFree brands.
