Military barracks turned ‘arts hotel’ in San Diego

McMillin, Untitled Hospitality and NTC Foundation have announced a collaboration to debut The Barracks Hotel in San Diego. Set to debut as an “arts hotel” in 2018, US$20 million hotel project will include the restored right of ten remaining buildings from a former Naval training center in the city’s Liberty Station neighborhood.

The Barracks Hotel will also promote the work of the NTC Foundation, whose mission is to promote San Diego’s creative community by providing a home to the city’s most innovative and creative arts and culture organizations. Both curated and site-specific works will be included throughout the hotels’ lobby, guestrooms, gardens and pool deck.

“With The Barracks Hotel, we’re taking an unconventional approach in reviving Liberty Station’s deep-rooted history,” said Robert Cartwright, CEO at Untitled Hospitality. “We believe the best way to honor the past is to make it personally relevant in the present. Through the concept’s artistic design and modern amenities we aim to create a truly authentic sense of place—after all, we hope to fashion a stay with history, not a stay in it.”
