Wyndham in Danang: Wyndham Hotel Group has unveiled plans to open a new hotel in Danag, Vietnam. The 779-room Wyndham Soleil Danang will be part of a 57-story hotel tower. The US$446 million project is expected to open in September 2018.

IHG in Germany: InterContinental Hotels Group added five new Holiday Inn and Holiday Inn Express hotels to its portfolio in Germany. The following properties will be developed: Holiday Inn Express Pforzheim, to open in 2019; Holiday Inn Mannheim City – Hauptbahnhof, in 2018; Holiday Inn Express Mannheim (no opening date given); Holiday Inn Express Regensburg, in late 2017; and the Holiday Inn Express Oberhausen, in 2018.

Feud in Beverly Hills: The Beverly Hilton Hotel is opposing Dalian Wanda Group’s plan to build a rival hotel across the street. Hilton representatives testified against the project at a city planning commission meeting. Wanda bought the property in 2014 and had received approval for a condo project, but it now wants to change it into a mixed condo-hotel project.

Hilton in Kuwait: Hilton Worldwide and Al-Rai Real Estate announced plans to open the Conrad Kuwait, and the Hilton Garden Inn Kuwait in early 2019 in the Avenues Mall in Kuwait City. Both hotels will be managed by Hilton.

Marriott Boulder: Stonebridge Companies assumed management of the Marriott Boulder in Boulder, Colorado. The 157-room property had been purchased by Summit Properties, a REIT.  

 


Hamister purchase: Buffalo, New York-based Hamister Group acquired three hotels in Hazleton, northeastern Pennsylvania, totaling 314 rooms. They include a Residence Inn, a Hampton Inn and a Fairfield Inn & Suites. Capital investments are planned.

 


Megaworld’s new brand: Megaworld of the Philippines is expanding its hotel business with the Savoy Hotel brand, set to open in Boracav Newcoast by year-end. The Savoy Hotel Boracay will have 530 rooms. Another Savoy will open in Pasay City next year with 684 rooms, and a third will be built in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu, to open in 2018.

Denver hotel sold: A 193-room Country Inn & Suites by Carlson, near Denver’s airport, was sold for US$15.5 million, by Minnesota-based Sand Companies, to Stonebridge Hospitality of Denver. It will be converted into a Courtyard by Marriott.

 


Millennium security breach: Millennium Hotels & Resorts North America discovered a data security incident involving F&B POS systems at 14 hotels in the U.S. between March and June. The company is investigating.

M&C CEO to resign: Millennium & Copthorne Hotels CEO Aloysius Lee has decided to resign effective Jan. 31, 2016. He became CEO in February 2015.

 


 

Airbnb’s commercial share in NYC: A study by data website FiveThirtyEight shows that commercial Airbnb listings – meaning that entire homes or apartments are rented out for much of the time – account for about a third of the revenue generated by Airbnb in the city.
