Dan Hotels’ King David Hotel in Jerusalem has opened the Wine Bar, an addition to the hotel lobby’s Oriental Bar, showcasing wines exclusively from Israel. Classically designed, the intimate bar setting preserves the hotel’s original style implemented by the Swiss interior designer, J.P. Hoffschmid, in the 1920s.
In the last decade, Israel has received widespread recognition as a key player in the global wine industry. Today, more than 330 wineries throughout the country offer a diverse range of varietals. From the Golan Heights to the Negev Desert, the Wine Bar at the King David offers an assortment of wines reflecting Israel’s vastly different microclimates.
In collaboration with international sommelier and wine consultant Gal Zohar, the King David’s sommelier and Beverage Manager Daniel Gidey composed the Wine Bar’s extensive wine list, which features a hand-picked selection of 65 wines.
The bar will stock 14 wines in its new Eurocave, keeping by-the-glass options consistently fresh. The Wine Bar at the King David also offers an expertly crafted tasting menu of wines from around the country. Guests can create their own tasting flight from eight pre-selected options. The tasting menu will change approximately every two months, offering guests seasonal variety and new tasting opportunities. Formal, lecture-guided sessions will also be available.
The King David’s Executive Chef David Biton has also curated a fresh menu of hors d’oeuvres for pairing with the wine list. A few examples include freshly baked Za’atar Foccaccia, house-smoked salmon and a selection of fine French and domestic cheeses.
