News in brief: Hyatt Centric, Baha Mar, Riu

Hyatt Centric adds three: Hyatt Hotels announced that three hotels are transitioning from the Hyatt brand to the Hyatt Centric brand. The hotels are in New Orleans’ French Quarter, Times Square in New York City and in Key West, Florida.

 


Baha Mar: Hyatt Hotels and SBE Entertainment Group are slated to open a Grand Hyatt and an SLS hotel, respectively, when the troubled Bahamas resort opens. Construction on the billion-dollar property, which still doesn’t have an owner, is slated to resume in the next 10 days.

Riu acquires Gresham: Riu purchased the Gresham Dublin for €92 million (US$103.3 million) and will rename it the Riu Plaza the Gresham Dublin. The 323-room hotel in a nearly 200-year-old building was renovated in 2013. 

 


China pipeline declines: China’s total pipeline has 2,323 projects/527,933 rooms, down 10% by projects and 2% by rooms year over year, according to Lodging Econometrics. For hotels currently under construction, China’s pipeline has 1,685 projects/358,005 rooms, down 19% by projects and 9% by rooms YOY. In contrast, there are 283 projects/72,222 rooms scheduled to start construction in the next 12 months, up 24% by projects and 17% by rooms. Projects in early planning, 355 projects/97,706 rooms, are up 22% by projects and 18% by rooms.

 


Auberge to manage Napa property: Auberge Resorts Collection announced that it will manage Solage, a Napa Valley, California, resort. The property was recently acquired by a joint venture of San Francisco-based Flynn Properties and Auberge.

 


G6 with new RM: G6 Hospitality, parent company of Motel 6 and Studio 6 brands, is rolling out a revenue management system for its economy-segment hotels. The system provides near-real-time rate and inventory management from any device.

 


TripAdvisor white-label search: TripAdvisor introduced an attractions content solution search product that allows customers booking hotels to view local activity options within the hotel company’s online and mobile channels, as well as book tours and activities. Radisson Blu is the first hotel brand to implement the content solution on its app.
