News in brief: Hyatt, Six Senses, Middle East construction

Hyatt Regency to debut in Cambodia: An affiliate of Hyatt Hotels Corp. has entered into a management agreement with Chip Mong Group for a Hyatt Regency hotel in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The Hyatt Regency Phnom Penh is set to open in 2020 and will mark the first Hyatt Regency hotel in Cambodia.

Six Senses to open on Hilton Head: South Carolina’s Hilton Head Town Council voted to accept a petition for annexing the Bay Point Island during a meeting this week. A Six Senses Resort Spas is planned for the proposed second island.

Middle East construction pipeline: According to Lodging Econometric’s Construction Pipeline Trend Report for the Middle East, the total pipeline has 495 projects/142,946 rooms, up 16% by projects and 11% by rooms year over year. For hotels currently under construction, the Middle East pipeline has 282 projects/88,545 rooms, up 26% by projects and 19% by rooms year over year. There are 103 projects/24,211 rooms scheduled to begin construction in the next 12 Months, up 8% by projects and 7% by rooms. Projects in “early planning” stages include 110 projects/30,190 rooms, down 16% by projects and 11% by rooms.

 


Niccolo to announce flagship in Hong Kong: Niccolo Hotels will open its flagship property in Hong Kong in October 2017. The Murray, a Niccolo Hotel, Hong Kong, will include 336 rooms, several restaurants and a rooftop bar.

Brexit’s impact in London: PricewaterhouseCoopers projects ccupancy rates in London 2017 will fall one percentage point to 80%, the lowest it has been in nine years. RevPAR is expected to decline by 2.8% this year and 0.5% in 2017. An increase in supply will also affect occupancy in London with about 7,200 new hotel rooms available next year, the most since the 2012 Olympics.
