News in brief: Anantara, Pacifica

Zanzibar resort: Anantara Hotels, Resorts & Spas will develop the Anantara Zanzibar Resort, expected to open in 2020 as part of the Zanzibar Amber Resort mixed-use community. The waterfront resort will have 100 guestrooms and 50 villas, a spa, three restaurants and a bar, and plans to introduce marine life and coral to restore a reef ecosystem.

 


Pacifica sale: Pacifica Hotels of Irvine, California, sold the 80-room Sommerset Suites in San Diego for US$19.5 million to developer Sentre Partners, also in San Diego. Pacifica owns and operates about 35 hotels mostly in California. Sentre plans to turn it into an apartment complex.

PEI resort sold: Canadian businessman Don McDougall, who led the group that brought the Blue Jays to Toronto, is purchasing three resorts and attractions owned by the government of Prince Edward Island. The properties, which will undergo renovations, include the Mill River resort, golf course, fun park and campground, as part of a long-term agreement between the provincial government and McDougall.
