News in brief: Fairmont, Radisson, StepStone

Fairmont Newport Beach sells: Sunstone Hotel Investors today sold the 444-room Fairmont Newport Beach in Aliso Viejo, California, for $125 million. The buyer was not named.

 


Radisson RED Krakow: The Rezidor, a member of international Carlson Rezidor Hotel Group, signed the first Radisson Red in Central Europe, in Krakow. The 230-room hotel is expected to be completed by fall of 2019. 

 


StepStone: Management company StepStone Hospitality added the 301-room Hilton Washington, D.C. North/Gaithersburg, Maryland, bringing its third-party management portfolio to 17 hotels. StepStone also will oversee upgrades to the hotel, including new fitness equipment, guestroom carpet, lobby and lounge furniture and digital key installation in all guestrooms.  

 


AHLA analysis: The American Hotel & Lodging Association released a new analysis focused on the economic benefits in the U.S. hotel industry. Conducted by Oxford Economics, data shows the hotel industry supports 8 million jobs across the country and contributes nearly $600 billion annually to the U.S. GDP, among other findings.

Hilton for Wellington: Wellington, New Zealand will get its first Hilton hotel, a seven-story, 108-room DoubleTree expected to be completed later this year.
