News in brief: Click decline, Host results

Not clicking around: According to a new study, leisure travelers are only visiting 4.4 unique websites before booking travel – a steep decline from a 2015 Expedia study whose research suggested 38 sites were visited before booking. Factors leading to the decline include improved Google search, consolidation and better websites.

Host results: Host Hotels & Resorts reported its 2016 results today. Revenue increased to US$5.43 billion from US$5.35, a 1.5% increase from 2015. Adjusted EBITDA rose to US$1.47 billion from US$1.41 billion, a 4.4% increase.

Scotsman purchase: Entrepreneur Stefan King’s hospitality firm announced that it is buying the troubled Scotsman hotel in Edinburgh. A purchase price was not named.

More rooms in Saudi Arabia: Saudi Arabia will see a record 68 new hotels and 29,033 rooms open in its major cities this year, according to a report by the Hotel Show Saudi Arabia 2017.
