News in brief: Cornell University hotel, Airbnb, Meininger

Cornell University hotel: AJ Capital Partners and Cornell University will build a hotel on the university’s new Cornell Tech campus on Roosevelt Island, New York. Set to open in 2019, the 196-room ground-up hotel will be designed by architectural firm Snohetta and have panoramic views of the Manhattan skyline. 

 


Airbnb: An Illinois federal judge won’t bar the city of Chicago from implementing a new ordinance regulating short-term home renting through sites like Airbnb, rejecting a motion for an injunction brought by a group who say the rules are unconstitutional.

 


Meininger: Meininger Hotels has signed an agreement to convert a hotel in Milan near the Garibaldi train station. With 80 rooms and 268 beds, the property is the second hotel in the city for the company.

Cassia and Mugler partnership: Architect Jean-Paul Cassia and designer Manfred Thierry Mugler created a real estate design partnership with the intent of crafting projects and destinations that combine Manfred’s creative talents with Jean-Paul’s ability to conceive and orchestrate projects of distinction. The partnership will harness Manfred’s background as a French director, fashion designer, photographer, perfume creator and stage and costume designer.
