Airbnb about to test premium service: report

Airbnb is about to launch a more upscale rental service to attract higher-paying travelers who prefer the amenities found in better hotels, according to a Bloomberg report sourcing people familiar with the project.

Rentals placed into the “select” group will be inspected to meet quality standards and required to include standard amenities such as matching linen, plush towels and single-use toiletries. Premium rentals would also be vetted for working appliances and a host’s commitment to stock the kitchen with bottled water and a selection of teas and coffee, similar to hotel offerings.

Bloomberg’s sources said the yet-to-be-named product could start beta testing as early as this week with the listings appearing in a specially featured section of the Airbnb website. It would launch in full by the end of 2017. Airbnb did not respond to Bloomberg’s request for comment.

Hosts who participate reportedly get access to a professional photographer who would take pictures of the home for Airbnb, along with other free perks like a consultation with an Airbnb-provided interior decorator, said two of the people familiar with the program.
