Briefs: Mandarin in Melbourne, Trump outta Toronto

Mandarin Melbourne: Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group signed a management contract for a new luxury hotel and branded residences to be developed in Melbourne, Australia. The project is expected to open in 2023, and is the Group’s first announced property in Australia.The hotel and residences will be located on Collins Street, in an iconic, mixed-use 607-foot tower will be designed by the late award-winning architect, Dame Zaha Hadid.

 


Trump Hotels pulls out of Toronto: JCF Capital ULC reached a buyout deal for management contracts at Trump International Hotel & Tower Toronto for a reported fee of at least US$6 million. Signage may be removed from the tower as soon as Aug, 1 and the hotel will likely be operated under Marriott International Inc. St. Regis brand.

Hotel Del pulls a Curio: The Hotel Del Coronado, legendary in its own right and once the filming site for the Marilyn Monroe flick Some Like It Hot, will be joining the Curio Collection by Hilton. There’s also no indication yet of how many points Hilton guests will need to redeem for a stay.

No more James: Following a sale of the property, Denihan Hospitality’s James brand will not operate a West Hollywood hotel originally set to open in spring. Instead, Starwood Capital’s eco-luxe 1 Hotels will take over the property, according to a local report.

Hilton San Diego: Final plans are wrapping up for a trio of Hilton-brand hotels on the upper end of San Diego’s Buena Vista Lagoon. Called the Inns of Buena Vista Creek, The business-class properties would be four to six stories tall, with a separate shared events pavilion, a four-story parking structure and other amenities.

Paramount yanks name from resort: Film Studio Paramount Pictures was to lend its name to a proposed £3.2 billion (US$4.07 billion) resort in Kent, England, but has now decided to cut its ties. Developer London Resort Company Holdings, which first revealed plans for the project in 2012, said the decision would not affect its goal to submit a planning application in November.
