The Hot: China’s Shangri-La Hotel, Yiwu opens

The 362-room Shangri-La Hotel, Yiwu has opened within the 52-story mixed-use Yiwu World Trade Centre – the tallest building in China’s Zhejiang Province.

Warm sienna and walnut color palette complements the intricate Dongyang wood carved screens in the hotel’s public areas, meant to pay homage to the culture and history of Zhejiang province. The lobby holds a painting by Zhou Shengfa, one of Yiwu’s most prominent artists, depicting Zhejiang province’s waterfalls and mountains.

Each guest room is decorated in natural colors and stamped with the Chinese Rose – the flower of Yiwu – which is engraved on wood, in a painting and embossed on panels.  Other features include complimentary Wi-Fi, a marble bathroom, executive desk and large picture windows.

The suites, which measure about 1,033-square-feet, have a Blu-ray player and tea and coffee making machine, as well as access to the hotel’s Horizon Club Lounge where breakfast, refreshments and cocktails are served daily.

The hotel has three main dining options. Yue Xiu Wok, the all-day dining restaurant, has buffet presentations at the multiple cooking stations with eight private dining rooms provide separate gathering spaces. Brown Sugar Bakery & Cafe has made-to-order Asian and Western dishes with design elements like blown glass lamps, and an exposed ceiling and black accents. An outdoor terrace is also available for alfresco dining. The Lobby Lounge, which has an ornate rose chandelier, serves refreshments, evening cocktails, and light snacks.

The Shangri-La Hotel, Yiwu has over 41,764-square-feet of event space, including a 39-foot-high pillar-less Grand Ballroom. The hotel is also the first in the city to feature an elevator large enough to transport automobiles directly to the ballroom.
