Briefs: Marriott dodges lawsuit | Four Seasons in Korea

Marriott robocalls: Marriott International dodged a proposed class action that accused the company of violating the Telephone Consumer Protection Act by making unsolicited robocalls to consumers, with a New York federal judge signing off on the voluntary dismissal of the suit.

Four Seasons Jeju Shinhwa World: On Friday, Four Seasons Hotels and Resorts announced plans to launch new luxury resort in Korea’s planned Jeju Shinhwa World, a resort development set to open in 2017. The hotel component, Four Seasons Resort Jeju Island at Jeju Shinhwa World, will include 240 guest rooms, suites and exclusive villas, with a variety of restaurants and bars.

 


Henderson makes moves in UK: Property investor Henderson Park, founded by former Goldman Sachs executive Nick Weber last year, acquired two of the UK’s largest hotels in a deal thought to be worth around £500 million (US$652 million).The deal for the Hilton London Metropole and Hilton Birmingham Metropole marks Henderson’s first move into UK hotels. The 790-room Birmingham hotel is the country’s largest outside of the capital, while the 1,059-room London property is the city’s second largest by room count.

IHG dual-brand Indonesia: InterContinental Hotels Group signed a dual-brand management agreement with PT Graha Agung Indahsentosa to debut two hotels, Holiday Inn Resort Bintan Lagoi Beach and Hotel Indigo Bintan Lagoi Beach in Bintan, Indonesia. Set to open in 2019, the new-build hotels will be situated in the prime Lagoi Bay area.

  


Thai tourism growth: Thailand’s Phang Nga Province recorded a record high of 4,475,223 visitors in 2016 as tourism revenue topped US$1.16 billion, according to a new report by consulting group C9 Hotelworks. While numbers are high, the destination’s lack of a gateway airport remains a barrier to broader success the report states.

Olshan Boston: Olshan Properties formed a joint-venture with Boston–based CV Properties, Normandy Real Estate Partners, and Harbinger Development to construct a mixed-use hotel and retail development in the historic part of Boston next to the Haymarket. Olshan will assume responsibility for the project’s hotel and retail components while CV Properties will act as the lead developer with Harbinger as co-developer.
