The Hot: Le Méridien Hamburg public space gets revamp

Entrance and lounge spaces at Le Méridien Hamburg have been updated with a shout out to the city’s nautical history.

European interior architecture JOI-Design was behind the public space redesign, which incorporates the region’s adjacent lake and nautical history. Subtle patterns of diagonal lines, triangles and prism shapes repeat on surfaces and in furniture designs, alluding to the ropes and sails of ships. Wood and stone surfaces in warm natural tones and textures contrast with soft furnishings in turquoise and aqua, with while walls finished in stucco and mother-of-pearl.

The reconfigured reception area has been transformed into a bright, expansive oval space furnished at one end with reception desks. Behind these, a specially commissioned large-scale artwork has thousands of fine metallic threads criss-crossed on the surface to illustrate a map of the world, with select lines indicated key international shipping routes.

In the HUB lounge, sofas are paired with lounge chairs and furniture is contemporary with high-quality finishes. Seating areas have been individually accessorized with luxurious rugs and decorative light fittings to create inviting spaces in which to relax and socialize. A central feature in the lounge is ‘Latitude’ bar, an all-day cafe that transitions to a bar in the evening.

Further phases of work also designed by the studio will involve a new-build conference facility and a soft refurbishment of the guest rooms and spa, all with concepts inspired by the lakeside setting.
