Briefs: Riyada in Riyadh | Wanda’s golf courses

Riyada in Riyadh: Wyndham Hotel Group along with Riyada International Hotels & Resorts and Concept Towers Real Estate Limited have agreed to develop a Ramada hotel in Riyadh. The 189-room Ramada Riyadh King Fahd Road will become the 11th Ramada in the country, and the 18th hotel under Wyndham Hotel Group’s portfolio of brands, which includes 12 operational hotels and a further six currently under development within the Kingdom. The hotel is expected to open in 2020.

Dart buys Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman: Dart Real Estate has purchased The Ritz-Carlton, Grand Cayman from Five Mile Capital Partners LLC. While there is a change in ownership, a long-term management agreement with The Ritz-Carlton Hotel Company, LLC remains in place and the world-class service for which the resort is known will continue, with no impact to operations. 

 


Dalian golf courses shut down: Two golf courses at a Dalian Wanda Group Co. resort in northeastern China were shut down by the municipal government there, in the latest setback for billionaire Wang Jianlin’s conglomerate. The Fusong County government ordered Wanda’s Changbaishan International Resort to stop golf course operations on Sept. 9, according to a notice on its website dated Oct. 13.

Under the sea: Plans for yet another new underwater hotel (Kleindienst Group is already attempting one in Dubai), this one in the southern resort city of Eilat. The hotel, from Alon Group developer brothers Tzahi and Chen Neumann has a reported cost of 200 million shekels (US$57 million). Jewish-American architect Daniel Libeskind is behind the design.

Trademark rebrand: Leslie Hospitality Co. of Omaha, Nebraska is changing plans to rebrand the Five Sullivan Brothers Convention Center and Ramada Hotel as a Hotel RL under the Red Lion chain. The roughly US$14 million purchase and remodeling of the downtown hotel includes renaming it Hotel 4th Waterloo and will see the hotel be a part of Wyndham’s new Trademark Hotel Collection.

Dogs in Disney: Walt Disney World Resorts recently announced that starting Oct. 15, dogs will be allowed to stay with their families at four Walt Disney World Resorts. From Sunday on, guests staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, Disney Port Orleans Resort – Riverside, Disney’s Art of Animation Resort or the cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground will be allowed to bring two canine companions per guest room along with them.
