Waldorf Astoria reno starts: The historic Park Avenue hotel, which has been closed since March, has finally hired a demolition crew to begin its US$2 billion renovation in November, according to the New York Post.

Vegas’ Paradise Park shapes up: Wynn Resorts chairman and CEO Steve Wynn revealed more details of his plan for The Paradise Park project, a new 1,500-room Las Vegas hotel tower that will be 47 stories tall and include. The tower, which will be Carnivale-themed, will require the closure of the golf course that is currently located east of the Wynn Las Vegas and Encore hotel towers. The new venture will utilize a lagoon on what is now the golf course.

Wyndham in Southeast Asia: Wyndham Hotel Group unveiled five new hotels in Southeast Asia – two in Indonesia and three in Vietnam. In Indonesia, the Wyndham Dreamland Resort Bali will open in December 2017 and the Wyndham Opi Hotel Palembang in Sumatra will open in March 2018. In Vietnam, the Wyndham Grand Cam Ranh and Wyndham Cam Ranh will open in March 2018 and Wyndham Cam Ranh and Wyndham Resort Tropicana Nha Trang are slated to open in 2019.

STR data, Barcelona: Preliminary STR data shows that hotels in Barcelona, Spain, experienced substantial performance declines following the October a Catalan Independence Referendum. Revenue per available room (RevPAR) in the market dropped considerably during the first five days after the referendum, with the sharpest year-over-year decline (-27.5%) on October 4. Prior to October, the market’s hotel performance was strong despite the 18 August terror attack and ongoing protests leading up to the referendum. Barcelona posted its highest ever RevPAR level for both the month of August, €146.11 ($169.46) and September, €140.75 (US$162.50) experiencing double-digit increases compared with the same two months in 2016. 

 


Ascott in Singapore: The Ascott Limited has secured contracts to manage two properties strategically located in the Central Business District (CBD) and near the Ophir-Rochor Corridor in Singapore. Both properties will operate under the Citadines brand. The 299-unit Citadines property in Raffles Place and the 320-unit Citadines Rochor Singapore are slated to open in 2021 and 2020 respectively.

 


Rosewood managing, China: Rosewood Hotels & Resorts will manage the 180-room Rosewood Chengdu in China’s Sichuan Province, set to open in 2023. Chengdu-based property developer Saiho Group is developing and the property will be Rosewood’s fifth in the country.

 


Canopy by Hilton comes to Southeast Asia: Development Sdn Bhd sold its 28-story hotel block in Bukit Bintang City Centre to Hass Holdings Sdn Bhd for RM290 million (US$68 million). The hotel will be managed by Hilton and branded as the first Canopy by Hilton hotel in South-East Asia under a hotel management agreement between Hass Holdings and Hilton.
