Briefs: Rosewood’s Asia play | Accor wellbeing chief

Rosewood in Asia: Rosewood Hotel Group will manage four properties in Asia: Rosewood Shenzhen (opening 2022, 300 rooms and 50 residences), owned by China Resources Land Limited (CR Land), the flagship subsidiary of China Resources Group; Rosewood Hermana Mayor (opening 2023, 128 villas along with residences), the first of the brand in the Philippines, owned by AquaTerra Hotels and Resorts Development Corporation; and New World Jaipur Resort (2023, 181 villas), owned by Keemaya Resorts and Spas and Rosewood’s entry into India’s subcontinent; and Rosewood Shanghai (opening 2024, 220 rooms and 83 serviced apartments), owned by Hopson Commercial Property Management Company and part of a mixed-use development. The company intends to double the number of Rosewood hotels in the next five years to 50, with one-third in Asia.

Ctrip-Radisson partnership: Online travel company Ctrip.com International agreed to a distribution partnership with Radisson Hotel Group. The two companies will work to expand the global distribution of Radisson properties, particularly in China, and to build China as a source market for Radisson properties around the world.

Golden Nugget-Caesers merger? News agencies are reporting that the owner of Golden Nugget casinos has approached Caesars Entertainment Corp. about a potential merger. The proposal would have billionaire Tilman Fertitta’s Golden Nugget acquired in a deal that values Caesars at about US$13 a share, according to a source.

Raffles re-opening: The Raffles Singapore is reopening on August 1, 2019, the company announced. The renovation restored the all-suite property and increased room count to 115, added a spa and updated F&B with outlets by Alain Ducasse and Anne-Sophie Pic – and, of course, Singapore Slings.

Crowne Plaza acquisition: Investment firm Driftwood Acquisitions and Development of Miami acquired the 290-room Crowne Plaza Melbourne Oceanfront in Melbourne, Florida. Driftwood Hospitality Management will manage, the hotel, which underwent repairs after Hurricane Irma. A purchase price was not given.

Accor hires wellness chief: AccorHotels hired Emlyn Brown as vice president wellbeing for AccorHotels’ luxury and upper upscale brands. Most recently Brown worked at Resense Spas S.A as global design director, responsible for corporate strategies, wellbeing concepts and related design services.

Courtyard in Melbourne: Marriott International signed an agreement with Ousia Investments to open Courtyard by Marriott West Melbourne, the first of the brand in that city. The 150-room new-build property is slated to open in 2021.
