Briefs: Vision Hospitality launches lifestyle division

New vision. Vision Hospitality Group, Chattanooga, Tennessee, has unveiled a separate lifestyle development and management company called Humanist. Under the umbrella brand is its existing Edwin Hotel in Chattanooga and a new brand under development called Kinley, which will debut in Cincinnati in late 2019, followed by Chattanooga in 2020. Humanist will also include the The Grady Hotel, set to open next year in downtown Louisville, Kentucky. Vision Hospitality plans to grow the Humanist portfolio more selectively than its current portfolio of 34 premium-select and full-service hotels.

Mixed-use doing just fine: The Aloft Perth, along with an adjoining office building, has sold in an A$100 million (US$72 million) deal with Singapore-based Meteorite Land buying. The 224-room property has all-day dining and a heated outdoor pool. According to Mark Durran of JLL Hotels & Hospitality which facilitated the deal, “The mixed-use income streams had strong appeal to both private and institutional investors…we received strong investor interest as expected, both domestically and from South East Asia.”

Frissora out at Caesars. Caesars Entertainment Corp. CEO Mark Frissora will leave the company early next year, the company stated on Thursday during its Q3 earnings report. With the company since July 2015, Frissora was in the headlines last month when Landry’s owner Tilman Fertitta, whose holdings include Golden Nugget-branded casinos nationwide, approached Caesars about a reverse merger that would have included Caesars absorbing Golden Nugget and Fertitta taking over as the company’s CEO. Caesars rejected the offer. The Caesars board will now work with a search firm to identify Frissora’s successor.

Radisson data breach: The Radisson Hotel Group has experienced a data breach impacting members of the firm’s loyalty and rewards scheme. Radisson Rewards members were directly informed on October 30 and 31 that a security incident was discovered on the first of the month which may have involved the leak of personal information. Information including names, physical addresses, countries of residence, email addresses, and some company names, telephone numbers, frequent flyer numbers, and Radisson Rewards member numbers were compromised. The hotel chain says that no financial data or passwords were involved in the breach. Radisson Hotel Group has not revealed how many members of the loyalty scheme have been affected, beyond the figure of “less than 10%.”

Fattal acquires The Grand Harbour Hotel: The property, in Southampton, is to become the latest Leonardo hotel in the UK, following the acquisition of the property by Fattal Hotel Group. Fattal acquired the 125-year leasehold of the Southampton property for £29 million (US$37 million), and is expected to rebrand the hotel in the coming months. The 173-room Grand Harbour Hotel is located on the Southampton waterfront and features a Marco Pierre White restaurant, a spa, gym, and 13 meeting and events spaces.

Host Hotels & Resorts 3Q results: RevPAR growth a bit softer than expected, according to Baird Equity Research analysts, but earnings were well ahead with plenty of progress made on the disposition front. While RevPAR growth fell short, F&B revenues (5.1% growth) and other revenues (9.4%) exceeded Baird’s forecast. Additionally, Host completed the sale of the JW Marriott Mexico City for US$183 million (US$587,000/key). Also, Host is selling the Westin Grand Central for US$300 million which will further reduce the company’s NYC exposure according to Baird. 

QT Auckland: QT Hotels & Resorts will develop QT Auckland, the 10th boutique hotel property in the collection and the third in New Zealand, joining QT Wellington and QT Queenstown. As part of the management agreement with QT Hotels’ parent company, Event Hospitality & Entertainment (EVENT), property owners Russell Property Group and Lockwood Property Group will be converting an existing building in the Viaduct Harbor. The property is expected to open in early 2020. 

A Graduate in South Carolina: (AJ) Capital Partners has acquired The Inn at USC in Columbia, South Carolina.  In spring 2019, the hotel will undergo renovation to become part of the Graduate Hotels collection. The 116-room hotel will remain open during renovations and will be completed in fall 2019.

1st JW in North Carolina: White Lodging will build the 21-story, 381-room JW Marriott Charlotte in partnership with real estate company Crescent Communities. The hotel will be the first JW Marriott in North Carolina and is scheduled to open in 2021 when the full development is expected to be complete.
