Briefs: The new Sheraton | The even newer MO Hyde Park

An update for Sheraton: As Marriott International gears up to launch Sheraton Hotels & Resorts 2.0, the company has released a new logo for the brand. According to Marriott, “the new design reflects the brand’s holistic vision for the future, making Sheraton the central gathering place of communities around the world.” The new Sheraton experience will be available to guests later this year in Phoenix. The transformed 1,000-room Sheraton Grand Phoenix hotel which the company purchased in 2018 will be the first of Sheraton’s full on-strategy hotel.

The restored MO Hyde Park: Mandarin Oriental Hyde Park, London will re-open in its entirety on April 15 having completed the most extensive restoration in the property’s 117-year history.  Following the re-opening of public spaces in December, the 181-room hotel will now unveil all new guest rooms and suites, including two newly created expansive penthouse suites. Designer Joyce Wang oversaw the redesign of all guest rooms and suites, along with the creation of the hotel’s new penthouses.

Taj gets a makeover: The new owners of the Taj Hotel in Boston filed plans Monday with the Boston Planning & Development Agency to renovate the nearly-century-old Back Bay hotel. They want to add 13 guestrooms to give the hotel a total of 286, enclose and expand the rooftop restaurant for year-round use, and, perhaps most noticeably, move and improve the hotel’s main entrance. An affiliate of Highgate Hotels — which in 2016 led a consortium with veteran developer Steve Karp and others to buy the Taj — filed the plans with BPDA. It is working to redevelop the grand hotel with Iconiq Capital, a San Francisco-based private equity firm that manages money for Facebook founder Mark Zuckerberg. The cost of the project has not been disclosed.
