People on the move: Waldorf Astoria, Meliá, Auberge

The Westin Nashville, Meliá Ho Tram Beach Resort in Vietnam, The Confidante Miami Beach, Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, and more properties across the globe named general managers while others bolstered their sales teams through executive appointments. Here are more of this week’s professional advancements in hospitality.

Nizuc Resort & Spa in Cancun, Mexico, hired Alicia Acevedo as spa director to oversee the Nizuc Spa, the first Espa-branded spa in the Mexican Caribbean. Acevedo has served as spa manager at luxury resorts around Mexico.

Sixty Hotels appointed Michael Bridges area managing director for Sixty Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California. Prior to this role, Bridges was general manager at Viceroy Santa Monica in Santa Monica, California.

Dan Brown is director of restaurants at Innisbrook Resort in Palm Harbor, Florida. He had been assistant director of food and beverage for the eight dining outlets at the Tampa Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida.

Waldorf Astoria Beverly Hills in Beverly Hills, California, appointed Drew Clarke director of sales and marketing. He returns to his home state from Budapest, Hungary, where he was director of sales and marketing at the Four Seasons Hotel Gresham Palace Budapest.

Jeff Crabiel is general manager of The Westin Nashville in Nashville, Tennessee. He was promoted from his prior role as director of rooms and executive assistant manager, a role in which he helped orchestrate the hotel’s migration into the Marriott portfolio.

Plantation on Crystal River in Crystal River, Florida, named Laura Dorner director of sales and marketing. Dorner previously was sales executive with Villages of Citrus Hills, a gated community in a nearby neighborhood.

Teneo Hospitality Group appointed April Egloff director of sales Midwest. Egloff had been senior sales manager at Lake Lawn Resort in Delavan, Wisconsin.

Sonesta International Hotels Corporation appointed Mark Ernst general manager for Sonesta Silicon Valley in Milpitas, California. Ernst, who has worked for Sonesta since 2014, most recently was task force general manager for The Clift Royal Sonesta in San Francisco.

Manuel Ferriol is general manager of Meliá Ho Tram Beach Resort in Ho Tram, Vietnam. Ferriol has worked for Meliá Hotels and Resorts for the past 15 years, most recently as acting resident manager at Gran Meliá Fenix in Madrid, Spain.

La Quinta Resort & Club, A Waldorf Astoria Resort in La Quinta, California, named Marco Foelske resort manager. Foelske most recently was director of food and beverage operations at the Hilton Atlanta.

Chris Frazier is general manager of Arrive East Austin in Austin, Texas. Previously, he was director of sales and marketing at Graduate Tempe Hotel in Tempe, Arizona. Anna Tabakh also joined Arrive East Austin as director of marketing. Tabakh has worked with companies including Marriott, Hilton, InterContinental Hotel Group, Wyndham and many boutique properties.

David Friederich is president of Barnsley Resort in Adairsville, Georgia. Friederich has more than 30 years of hospitality management experience, most recently as managing director of The Whitley in Atlanta’s Buckhead neighborhood.

Meliá Hotels International named Juan Carlos Gonzalez director of sales and marketing for Paradisus Los Cabos and ME Cabo in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico. He had been director of global sales at The Doyle Collection.

Pastry Chef Alon Gontowski joined Rosen Centre in Orlando, Florida, as executive pastry chef. Gontowski had been on the team at The Seminole Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Tampa, Florida.

In addition to her current position as commercial director, Femke Groeneveld-Weller also is deputy general manager of Hotel Okura Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She joined the property in 2009 as director of conferences and events. Jos Pallandt is director of rooms at Hotel Okura Amsterdam, and now will have responsibilities including the front office, concierge, guest relations, security and housekeeping, as well as responsibility for the Nagomi Spa & Health wellness center.

Hotel Equities promoted Kristin Iversen to director of learning and people development. She most recently served as the opening general manager for the SpringHill Suites by Marriott-Navarre Beach, in Navarre, Florida, where she oversaw the hotel’s year-long development.

Amy Johnson is general manager of The Confidante Miami Beach, part of The Unbound Collection by Hyatt brand, in Miami Beach, Florida. Johnson recently was general manager of Hyatt Regency Calgary in Calgary, Alberta, Canada.

InterContinental San Diego appointed Jeff Josenhans director of food and beverage, and Eric Manning director of sales and marketing. Josenhans most recently was director of banquets, restaurants and bar for the US Grant Hotel, also in San Diego. Manning most recently was director of sales and marketing for Omni Hotels & Resorts in San Diego.

Daniel McGarry is corporate regional revenue manager for Stonebridge Companies in Denver. McGarry had been with Vail Resorts, where he was branded revenue manager.

Steven Natale is regional director of operations, leading Prestige Hospitality Group’s Mid-Atlantic operations. Natale has more than 15 years in the hospitality industry in the greater Philadelphia market.

Grand Wailea, A Waldorf Astoria Resort in Wailea, Hawaii, appointed John Paul Oliver managing director. Oliver joined the property from Hotel Kabuki in San Francisco, and prior to that was vice president of lifestyle, Americas for Hyatt Hotels and Resorts.

Shawn Pace is senior sales executive at the San Francisco Marriott Marquis, responsible for growing business from the Midwest. Pace comes to the property from the Koloa Landing Resort at Poipu in Koloa, Hawaii, where he was director of national accounts.

Shangri-La Hotel, Singapore, appointed Tane Picken general manager. Picken previously was general manager at Shangri-La’s Rasa Sentosa Resort & Spa, Singapore.

Jamie Schiable is managing director at Arrive Wilmington in Wilmington, North Carolina. She has experience in brand building, hospitality management, creative development and interactive marketing.

Connie Shaheen is general manager of The Revolution Hotel in Boston. The Boston native most recently was assistant general manager at the Everly Hotel in Los Angeles.

Sage Hospitality named Joseph Steiskal dual general manager, overseeing the Embassy Suites by Hilton and Hilton Garden Inn, both in Boulder, Colorado. He most recently was general manager of the Renaissance Broomfield Flatiron Hotel in Broomfield, Colorado.

The Envoy Hotel in Boston promoted Mark Strauss to beverage director at Lookout Rooftop, the hotel’s rooftop bar. Strauss joined the property in 2016 as assistant restaurant general manager.

Steven Szenasi is general manager of The Ritz-Carlton, Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona. This marks a promotion from his previous role at the property as director of operations, a title he held since 2016.

Dallas-based Prism Hotels & Resorts hired Will Traywick as vice president of e-commerce and digital marketing. Traywick departed HEI Hotels & Resorts, where he was director of marketing and e-commerce.

The Lodge at Blue Sky, Auberge Resorts Collection in Wanship, Utah, appointed Galen Zamarra executive chef. Zamarra joined the property from Mas (farmhouse) and Mas (la grillade) restaurants in New York City.
